Larry Becker’s book, A New Stoicism, is without question the most serious attempt to “update” Stoicism from the end of its first half-millennium run to the second century of the modern era. This booklet is a commentary on the second edition of A New Stoicism, published in 2017, just one year before Larry’s death. Larry read this content, provided very useful feedback, and was eventually happy that this presents a correct, approachable summary of his otherwise rather technical book. He was an excellent philosopher and a decent man, whom the author is proud to call his friend. In a way, this booklet is the author's homage to him, in the hope that his ideas will endure and have the broad impact they deserve.
